Overview and History:

The Den Collective is at the cutting edge of the changing American Jewish landscape, working to co-create a Judaism that is relevant, accessible, and inherently rooted in tradition, in partnership with 20s – 40s throughout the Greater D.C. area. By fostering intentional spaces for deep belonging and self- exploration, the Den strives to provide a collaborative, experimental, transparent, and radically welcoming Jewish experience. The Den seeks a skilled and passionate inaugural Director of Development to build upon and enhance its existing development strategy for a rapidly growing $500,000+ operating budget. This key leadership position will infuse structure, sophistication, and imagination, coupled with fundraising savvy, into the Den’s development activities and achievements. A successful candidate will bring a minimum of 5 years of development experience. This individual will be a natural relationship builder and team player who thrives on deepening connections and is enthusiastic about sustaining the Den’s vision for the Jewish future.

Key Responsibilities:
• Spearhead and oversee all aspects of the Den’s comprehensive annual development efforts in alignment with organizational budget and goals
• Own the “big picture” vision for fundraising strategy and growth, while playing an active day-to-day role in donor-facing work and development functions
• Analyze and understand the Den’s existing donor base, while building out strategies for reaching additional individual and institutional funding in the D.C. area and beyond
• Collaborate with Executive Director to manage a substantial portfolio of donors and conduct face-to-face solicitations of new, renewed, and increased gifts to grow the Den’s base of support
• Partner with Executive Director and community rabbis on all stages of the donor cycle: prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
• Engage and inspire Board of Directors and Advisory Council to serve as ambassadors for the Den and play an expanding role in development
• Launch new donor engagement programs and events to bring current and future supporters closer to the Den’s vision, work, and impact
• Provide research, strategy, and preparation materials for Executive Director’s donor engagements; assist with follow up and ongoing stewardship
• Oversee development-related events, including formal fundraising activities, as well as relationship building opportunities at year-round programs
• Design and implement a robust stewardship calendar, ensuring regular donor touchpoints, thoughtful solicitation timing, and creative giving options
• Supervise day-to-day development-related administrative and operations tasks in partnership with support staff, including donor acknowledgments

Qualifications & Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of nonprofit development experience (or relevant experience)
• Independence and initiative in developing new methods and techniques for building donor pipelines
• Proactive and adaptable working style • Ability to focus on overarching goals while staying on point with detail-oriented tasks and initiatives
• Strong organization skills; attention to detail; ability to multi-task and prioritize • Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-energy, collaborative environment
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Aptitude for building relationships with diverse staff, board members, community members, and donors
• High level of professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information
• Commitment to working with humility as part of a team dedicated to diverse perspectives and voices
• Proficiency with Zoom, Google Drive, MS Office, CRMs, and calendaring tools (Asana and/or Salesforce experience a plus)
• Willingness to work remotely, attending frequent in-person meetings and events
• Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed
• Knowledge of and experience with the organized Jewish community a plus
